EPDM flat roofs in Latvia · Elevate RubberGardWatch your roof get built.
Scroll down. By the time you reach the bottom, this flat roof is finished with the full Elevate system: V-Gard vapour control, RESISTA AK PIR insulation, ISOGARD HD cover board and RubberGard EPDM. Every installer on our crew is Elevate-certified.
01
Deck check
We start with the base. The deck has to be clean, smooth, dry and sound before anything goes on it. Damaged boards are replaced first, then the deck is primed with Elevate SA-19 Primer.
02
Elevate V-Gard vapour control
Where the roof needs a vapour control layer, we lay V-Gard: reinforced aluminium foil with a self-adhesive bituminous backing. The release film comes off and the sheet is pressed onto the primed deck. Fully cold: no open flame.
It stops warm, moist air from inside the house reaching the insulation, where it could condense.
03
RESISTA AK PIR insulation
Rigid RESISTA AK PIR (polyisocyanurate) boards, thermal conductivity 0.023 W/m·K, go down tight together, bonded with Elevate I.S.O. Twin Pack insulation adhesive. This is a warm roof: the insulation sits above the deck, under the membrane.
The board thickness is chosen for the heat loss your roof has to meet.

04
ISOGARD HD cover board
Where the project calls for it, a 12.7 mm high-density PIR cover board with a mineral-coated fibreglass facer goes over the insulation.
It protects the insulation, spreads the load from feet and equipment, and gives the membrane a firm, smooth surface to bond to.
05
RubberGard EPDM membrane
One large sheet of RubberGard EPDM, 1.1 mm thick, or 1.5 mm where the roof gets more foot traffic. It is laid out to relax for about 30 minutes, then fully bonded to the board below with Elevate contact adhesive, applied by roller to both surfaces.
Big sheets mean few seams. Where two sheets meet, they overlap by at least 100 mm and are joined with QuickSeam splice tape. See how a seam is made.
06
QuickSeam flashings, trims and outlets
The membrane is turned up the parapet walls, at least 150 mm above the finished roof, and held with a termination bar. Corners and pipes get QuickSeam flashings, edge trims are fixed, and the outlet is sealed with Water Block Seal so water has a clear way off the roof.
07
Lights on, final check
The sun is going down, so the crew brings in the work lights. The whole roof gets a final walk-round: every edge, upstand and outlet is checked.
Finished. Now let it rain.

Why Elevate RubberGard EPDM
One rubber sheet. One system. Very few weak spots.
- Flexible in the coldRubberGard EPDM stays flexible down to −45 °C and stretches over 300%, so it moves with the building.
- Few seamsSheets come up to 15.25 × 30.5 m, so most roofs need few or no seams in the field.
- No open flameV-Gard and RubberGard both go down cold. No torches on your roof.
- Built to lastRubberGard EPDM has a life expectancy of over 50 years.
- Certified crewEvery installer on our crew holds an Elevate certificate.
- One systemV-Gard, RESISTA AK PIR, ISOGARD HD, RubberGard EPDM, QuickSeam. Every layer comes from Elevate and is made to work together.

Questions
EPDM roofs, briefly.
How long does an EPDM roof last?
RubberGard EPDM has a life expectancy of over 50 years.
Which thickness do I need?
1.1 mm for most roofs with little foot traffic. 1.5 mm for roofs with more foot traffic, and for green roofs or roofs with solar panels.
Is open flame used on my roof?
No. V-Gard is self-adhesive and RubberGard EPDM is bonded with contact adhesive. No torches.
Does every roof need a vapour control layer?
No. It depends on the building and what happens inside it. We check this for your roof before we quote.
Does EPDM handle Latvian winters?
RubberGard EPDM stays flexible down to −45 °C.
Who installs the roof?
Elevate-certified installers. Every installer on our crew holds an Elevate certificate.
Which way of fixing is right for my roof?
On concrete we usually bond every layer. On profiled steel the membrane is held by fastening strips fixed in lines. Where the roof can carry the weight and the slope is 10% or less, it can be laid loose under ballast. See all six builds on the roof systems page.
Can you install EPDM in winter?
Bonded roofs need surfaces that are dry and free of ice, and the contact adhesive is applied at 5 °C or more. For cold weather there is a self-adhesive membrane, RubberGard SA, which goes down at temperatures as low as −7 °C.
Can I have a green roof or solar panels?
Yes. Both need the 1.5 mm membrane. Under a green roof it is root resistant to EN 13948. Under solar panels we add a high-density cover board and walkway pads where people will walk.
How wide is a sheet?
RubberGard comes from 3.05 m up to 15.25 m wide and 30.5 m long, so many roofs are covered with one or two sheets.
How are the seams made?
The sheets overlap by at least 100 mm and are joined with 76 mm QuickSeam Splice Tape after both surfaces are primed. No heat and no flame. Watch it on the seam page.
Can EPDM go over my old bitumen roof?
Sometimes. EPDM must not touch hot bitumen or oils, so it depends on what is there now. We look at the old roof first and tell you whether it can stay or has to come off.
Does the roof need maintenance?
Keep drains and gutters clear of leaves and look the roof over after storms. Walk on the walkway pads where there are some.
