RubberGard EPDM · QuickSeamHow a seam is made.

Where two EPDM sheets meet, the joint is made with QuickSeam Splice Tape. Scroll down and watch one seam being made, step by step.

01

Overlap and mark

After the sheets have relaxed for about 30 minutes, the top sheet laps over the bottom sheet by at least 100 mm. Along its edge we draw crayon marks on the bottom sheet, so the tape goes on exactly where it should.

02

Fold back the top sheet

The top sheet is folded back to open up the seam area. Both mating surfaces have to be clean and dry.

03

Prime the bottom sheet

QuickPrime Plus goes on with a QuickScrubber pad, a little wider than the tape, in long back-and-forth strokes. We stop when the rubber turns an even dark grey, with no streaks or puddles.

04

Prime the top sheet

The same on the underside of the top sheet. Both surfaces are primed, so the tape bonds to rubber on both sides, like a sandwich.

05

Touch-push test

The primer has to dry completely before the tape goes on, usually in less than 10 minutes. We check it with a touch-push test with a clean, dry finger.

06

QuickSeam Splice Tape

The 76 mm QuickSeam Splice Tape goes onto the bottom sheet, its release liner lined up with the crayon marks. It is rolled straight away with a silicone hand roller.

07

Lay the top sheet down

The top sheet comes back and lies on the tape, release liner still on. 5 to 15 mm of tape stays visible past the edge of the top sheet.

08

Pull the release liner

The paper liner is pulled out from under the top sheet at 90° to the seam, low along the roof. Right behind it, a hand smooths the top sheet down onto the bare tape.

09

Roll the seam

Finally the seam is rolled: first across the seam with a hand roller, then along its full length. Where two tape ends meet they overlap by at least 25 mm, and every T-joint gets a QuickSeam FormFlash patch on top.
